When people talk about Puerto Escondido, they talk about surf. That is a fact. So, it made perfect sense. When we each thought about what to do with our lives, we knew surf was in it. The problem was, we were always afraid we would turn into yet another “Puerto Escondido Surf School”.
For many years, Celestino worked as a lifeguard. He had also taught surf lessons for over 15 years. Therefore, he knows Puerto Escondido’s beaches like the palm of his hand –perhaps better than that. While growing up, Melinda snuck out to the waves any chance she had. In addition, she also worked with tourists and helped out in her family’s business from a very young age.
A surf life together
We got married in 2008. And we made a decision: We would build a home, a family, and a business together. Celestino brought his expertise as a lifeguard. Which included being part of International Surf Tournaments, and just enjoying a life of surf, community, and service to visitors in the Puerto Escondido area. Melinda knew she wanted to have her own hotel or a space where we could build a community. And so, by 2010 we were ready.
Once the kids were born, and just as passionate about life in Puerto Escondido, we decided to turn our business into a total surf lifestyle. We teach surf, we host surfers, and we surf. All of this, while building a community of friends who love surf and Puerto Escondido just as much as we do.
We love that we are just small enough that we get 5-15 visitors per week in our Surf House. That really allows us to get to know them, and to share with them all the amazing things our little beach town has to offer. We care about each one of them, and the experience that they will take back home with them.
However, it is not just about the people who stay with us. Each group of surf lessons is a whole new experience. We care about our students as people. Because we know we are the face of Puerto Escondido. Therefore, the experience that they take with them, even with just a couple of surf lessons, will be part of their memories of our town.
See, we are not just another surf school.
Our surf school, is our home, our business, and our life.
