Canadians chasing the sun are not something new in Puerto Escondido.
Melinda, can tell you more about that. The love relationship between Puerto Escondido and Canada, is a long-lasting one. Just like some of our recent visitors. As Winter struck our friends further up in Canada, the United States, and Europe; the beaches of Oaxaca, were booming with sun and waves. This means many of our friends up north were looking for an escape from snowy weather.
Our new friends were a little unsure about hitting the waves at first. That is why they chose to try SUP first.
What is SUP?
Stand Up Paddle boarding is a great way to tour flat water surfaces. Learn more about SUP Touring here. It is a great way to start gaining balance and confidence in surfboards. SUP is a fairly recent activity, but one we really enjoy when we are unable to hit the waves. This was also a great way to share with them the Laguna de Manialtepec. A tour guide took part of the experience, so they could ask all the questions they had about this beautiful place. After that, it was time to freshen up a little and rest. A great excuse to grab a fresh coconut or a beer. When they were ready, we headed back to Zicatela.
Finally time to hit the waves!
After getting some rest, they were finally convinced to try the waves. Their surf lesson was a complete success! After a day’s worth of beach, and surf lessons, they were exhausted, a little sunburnt, but very happy! That’s how it goes with surf. You may find yourself a little bit intimidated. But once you get to experience the waves, and feel confident standing on a surfboard, it is so much fun!
There are so many amazing natural areas surrounding Puerto Escondido. We truly hope we get to share them with you soon!
